Big Tree, Big Benefits

The Allanblackia tree is tall and has large fruits people don’t like to eat. Many of its traditional uses had been forgotten, so for many years its primary use was to be cut for firewood. But with the world’s increasing desire for sustainable products, there is renewed interest in producing vegetable oil from Allanblackia seeds which can have significant benefits in Africa and beyond.

Allanblackia oil is a natural oil with properties that make it excellent for use in margarines, spreads and more. But it’s not just consumers who benefit from Allanblackia. Local communities already engaged in producing Allanblackia oil are seeing tangible economic, social, and environmental benefits, and scaling up production has the potential to scale up the benefits as well.
